Gegenbach is a district of the municipality of Breitenberg and a district in the Lower Bavarian district of Passau . The village is about three kilometers west of Breitenberg.
The creek Gegenbach, which gives it its name, arises in the area of the former municipality, but does not flow through the town itself. It is the border creek between Austria and Germany and rises in the area of the triangle before it flows into the Große Michelbach before Breitenberg . After the confluence with the Finsterbach, this in turn becomes the Große Mühl in Austria .

On January 1, 1971, the neighboring community of Schönberg was incorporated into Breitenberg. On April 1, 1971, Gollnerberg was added. Gegenbach followed on January 1, 1972.
