The district of Oberviechtach was a district in the Bavarian administrative district of Upper Palatinate . Its former area is now largely in the Schwandorf district .

In 1972 the district bordered counterclockwise in the north, beginning with the districts of Vohenstrauss , Nabburg , Neunburg vorm Wald and Waldmünchen . In the east the district bordered on Czechoslovakia .
history
district Court
As a result of the administrative reform of 1838 in the Kingdom of Bavaria , the Oberviechtach Regional Court was established in 1840 and 38 communities were assigned to it. Over the years, the number kept changing.
District Office
In 1862, as a result of the separation of the judiciary and administration, the regional court district of Oberviechtach and the regional court district of Neunburg vorm Wald were merged to form the district office of Neunburg vorm Wald.
On October 1, 1900, the Oberviechtach district office was formed from 37 communities in the Neunburg vorm Wald district office .
district
On January 1, 1939, the uniform imperial designation Landkreis was introduced. The district office became the Oberviechtach district.
In 1946 the district of Oberviechtach was enlarged to include the municipality of Gmeinsrieth in the district of Vohenstrauß. Gmeinsrieth was split up. One part came to Dietersdorf, the other to Schönsee .
In 1946, some communities were dissolved and connected to other communities.
On July 1, 1972, the Oberviechtach district was dissolved as part of the regional reform in Bavaria . The communities Altenschneeberg , Hannesried , Heinrichskirchen , Irlach and Schönau came to the district of Cham . All other communities were combined with parts of the districts of Amberg , Burglengenfeld , Neunburg vorm Wald , Nabburg , Regensburg and Roding as well as the previously independent town of Schwandorf to form the new district of Schwandorf .

Before the beginning of the Bavarian regional reform, the Oberviechtach district comprised 32 communities in the 1960s:

- Bernhof , in Gleiritsch on January 1, 1946
- Eigelsberg , in Oberviechtach on January 1, 1946
- Hof , on January 1, 1946 in Oberviechtach
- Nunzenried , on January 1, 1946 in Oberviechtach
- Pirkhof , on January 1, 1946 in Wildeppenried
License Plate
On July 1, 1956, the district was assigned the distinctive sign OVI when the vehicle registration number that is still valid today was introduced . It was issued until August 3, 1974. Due to the license plate liberalization , the OVI license plate has been available again in the Schwandorf district since July 10, 2013.
coat of arms
The coat of arms of the Oberviechtach district, which was valid until 1972, shows a silver bar on the opposite side in a red shield. There is thus a historical reference to the coat of arms of the Counts of Ortenburg , the former owners of the Murach lordship in the district.
