history

District Office

The district office of Königshofen was formed in 1862 through the merger of the district courts of the older order Hofheim and Königshofen.

On October 3, 1866, the communities of Bramberg and Hofstetten were separated from the Königshofen district office and added to the Ebern district office.

In 1900, communities were separated from the Königshofen district office and the new Hofheim district office was formed from them.

On January 1, 1939, the uniform designation Landkreis was introduced in the German Reich . So the district office became the Königshofen district in Grabfeld.

On July 1, 1972, the district of Königshofen im Grabfeld was incorporated into the district of Bad Neustadt an der Saale as part of the regional reform in Bavaria with the district of Mellrichstadt, which was also dissolved . On May 1, 1973, the new district was given its current designation as the district of Rhön-Grabfeld .

License Plate

On July 1, 1956, the district was assigned the distinctive sign KÖN when the vehicle registration number that is still valid today was introduced . It was issued until April 28, 1973. Since July 10, 2013 it has been available again in the Rhön-Grabfeld district due to the license plate liberalization .
