Important places
The communities with the largest population were Illertissen, Vöhringen , Babenhausen and Altenstadt .
Neighboring areas

history
district Court
In 1804 the Illertissen district court was founded. 38 years later, a community belonging to the Illertissen regional court was added to the newly founded Neu-Ulm regional court.
District Office
In 1862 the three regional courts Illertissen, Roggenburg and Babenhausen formed the district office Illertissen, with the seat of the regional court Roggenburg being transferred to Weißenhorn with some municipalities being transferred to the Krumbach district office . On January 1, 1880, areas in the Weißenhorn area that belonged to the Illertissen district office were assigned to the Neu-Ulm district office. Illertissen also gave some places to the Krumbach and Memmingen district offices.
district
On January 1, 1939, the uniform imperial designation Landkreis was introduced. This is how the district office became the district of Illertissen.
On January 1, 1971, the municipality of Dietershofen bei Illertissen was incorporated into the municipality of Obenhausen and on July 1, 1971, the municipality of Betlinshausen was incorporated into the city of Illertissen.
On July 1, 1972, the district of Illertissen was dissolved as part of the regional reform in Bavaria . The north-western part of the district - 29 communities, including the city of Illertissen - was combined with the former district of Neu-Ulm and the previously independent city of Neu-Ulm to form the Illerkreis . On May 1, 1973, the new district was given the current name of the Neu-Ulm district . The other 13 communities, the south-eastern part of the district, were added to the Unterallgäu district, which was initially called Mindelheim district until 1973 .
