District Office

The District Office Gemünden was formed in 1862 through the merger of the regional courts of the older order Gemünden and Orb .

On April 15, 1868, the municipalities of the Gemünden District Office ceded to Prussia were assigned to the Gelnhausen district in the Hesse-Nassau province . Affected communities were Alsberg , Aufenau , Burgjoss , Höchst , Kassel , Lettgenbrunn , Mernes , Neudorf , Oberndorf , Pfaffenhausen , Wirtheim and Orb . The village of Aura, which also belongs to the Orb district, remained in Bavaria.

In 1872 the Gemünden District Office was incorporated into the Lohr am Main District Office .

In 1902, the Gemünden am Main district office was re-established as a spin-off from the Lohr am Main district office.

On January 1, 1905, the community of Halsbach moved from the district office of Gemünden am Main to the district office of Lohr am Main.

On July 1, 1972, the district was dissolved as part of the regional reform in Bavaria and merged with the former districts of Marktheidenfeld , Karlstadt and Lohr am Main to form the Mittelmain district. On May 1, 1973, the new district was given the current name of the district of Main-Spessart .
