Location of the district of Nördlingen in Bavaria | ||
The district of Nördlingen belonged to the Bavarian administrative district of Swabia . Before the start of the regional reform in Bavaria , the district comprised 74 municipalities at the beginning of the 1970s.
geography
Important places
The most populous places were Oettingen , Wallerstein and Fremdingen . The city of Nördlingen itself - except for the period between 1940 and 1949 - as an independent city, did not belong to the district.
Neighboring areas
In 1972 the district bordered clockwise in the north, beginning with the districts of Dinkelsbühl , Gunzenhausen , Donauwörth and Dillingen an der Donau (all in Bavaria) and with the districts of Heidenheim and Aalen (both in Baden-Württemberg ).
The independent city of Nördlingen was an enclave in the district.
history
District Office
The Bavarian District Office Nördlingen was formed in 1862 through the merger of the district courts of the older order Nördlingen and Oettingen .
district
On January 1, 1939, the term rural district was introduced throughout the empire. This is how the district office became the district of Nördlingen.
On April 1, 1940, the independent city of Nördlingen was incorporated into the district of Nördlingen. This was reversed on April 1, 1949.
On July 1, 1972, as part of the regional reform in Bavaria , the district of Nördlingen was merged with most of the district of Donauwörth to form the new district of Nördlingen-Donauwörth . In addition, there was the previously independent city of Nördlingen, the southwestern parts of the dissolved district of Neuburg an der Donau , the municipality of Tapfheim from the district of Dillingen an der Donau and the municipality of Steinhart of the dissolved district of Gunzenhausen. The seat of the district office was initially in Nördlingen. On May 1, 1973, the district was given the current name of the Donau-Ries district . Donauwörth was designated the new district town.
