Schrattenhofen is a village and district of the city of Harburg (Swabia) in the district of Donau-Ries in the administrative district of Swabia in Bavaria .

Schrattenhofen is located northwest of Harburg in the Nördlinger Ries . It is located just west of the crater rim directly on the Wörnitz, which flows north-south at this point .

Although only a small village, Schrattenhofen was widely famous in the past: Prince Albrecht Ernst II of Oettingen-Oettingen had a pleasure palace with belvedere and the widely famous zoo built at the beginning of the 18th century . There was also another castle in Schrattenhofen, the Dorfschlösschen, which has long since ceased to exist.

In 1737 the Oettinger Porcelain Manufactory moved from Oettingen to Schrattenhofen in the zoo. From 1757 to the middle of the 19th century, the widely famous faience was produced in Schrattenhofen.

Schrattenhofen was an independent municipality in the district of Nördlingen and was incorporated into the municipality of Heroldingen on January 1, 1972 as part of the regional reform in Bavaria . Heroldingen, in turn, was added to the district of Nördlingen-Donauwörth on July 1, 1972, which has been called the Donau-Ries district since May 1, 1973 . Heroldingen was incorporated with Schrattenhofen on May 1, 1978 into the city of Harburg (Swabia).

The Protestants of Schrattenhofen belong to the Protestant parish of Sankt Martin in Heroldingen .
The Catholics of Schrattenhofen belong to the parish Motherhood of Mary in Hoppingen .

The north-south running state road St 2221 from Oettingen in Bavaria to Hoppingen passes directly to the west of Schrattenhofen .
