geography

The church village is about 4 km east of Hainsfarth. It is crossed by the state road 2216 , which connects it with Hainsfarth and the federal road 466 . Approx. The Hahnenkammsee is 3.5 km to the east as the crow flies , the city of Oettingen is 5 km away. The right-hand Gänsbach , a source river of the Wörnitz , flows through the place.

history

In the 13th and 14th centuries, a local nobility of the von Späth / Speth / Speto von Steinhart (around 1266 also von Faimingen ) is proven. Friedrich Späth was bishop of Augsburg from 1309 to 1331 , his brother Konrad donated the Steinhart church in 1313. In 1339 the family died out. Later a castle was built in the village and the castle was abandoned.

From the 16th century on there was a Jewish community in Steinhart with its own cemetery. Later a small synagogue was built and in 1843 an Israelite schoolhouse was built. In the 1880s, the Steinhart Jewish community disbanded after a strong move.

There was a brickworks in Steinhart since the 17th century. Later expanded to a steam brick factory, brick production was given up in the 1920s and the property became a farm (today's brickworks).

Until July 1, 1972, Steinhart, with its districts of Hasenmühle and Ziegelhütte, was an independent municipality in the former Gunzenhausen district , after which it became the Donau-Ries district. On January 1, 1976, all three places were incorporated into Hainsfarth as part of the municipal reform.
