Herblingen is a part of the community of Fremdingen in the Bavarian - Swabian district of Donau-Ries .

location

The church village is located on the north-western edge of the Ries , approx. 3.5 km southeast of Fremdingen on the open ground. Local roads lead to the nearby district road DON 12 .

history

Herblingen developed from an Alemannic settlement, of which a row of burial grounds was found in the town center . The first documentary mention dates from 1157, as "Herlaibingen" by Pope Hadrian IV. In the Middle Ages , the lords of Hochaltingen exercised the local rule . In the Thirty Years War , Herbingen's population was severely decimated. Later the barons of Welden ruled the place. In 1764 they sold herblings to the princes of Oettingen-Spielberg .

With the community edict, Herblingen became a rural community in 1818 . The children continued to go to school in Hochaltingen until their own school house with a teacher's apartment was built in 1903/1904. The school was closed in 1968, and land consolidation was carried out in 1967 and 1968 .

Until the municipal reform , Herblingen was an independent municipality with the district Nonnenbergmühle (Jonasmühle). On May 1, 1978 this was dissolved and both places were incorporated into the community of Fremdingen.

Buildings

There are still some old farmhouses with steep roofs in the village. In addition to some other monuments, the Catholic branch church of St. Michael and Lorenz and the local chapel in Hofacker are also on the list of monuments .
