Office and land and maintenance court

From 1281 at the latest, Tölz was named as one of the most important offices of the Duchy of Bavaria in the land of the land . In the late Middle Ages, the Tölz Land and Nursing Court developed from the office , which existed until secularization in 1802/03.

The three last municipality-free areas, with the exception of the Walchensee, former forests of the Benediktbeuern monastery , were added to the municipalities of Kochel a.See (with Walchensee), Jachenau and Lenggries on January 1, 1970.

On July 1, 1972, as part of the regional reform in Bavaria, the main part of the Wolfratshausen district and the Schlehdorf community of the Weilheim district were added to the district of Bad Tölz . On May 1, 1973, the district council established the name Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen .
