history
District Office
The district office of Donauwörth was formed in 1862 through the merger of the regional courts of the older order Donauwörth and Monheim .
On March 20, 1871, the Wertingen District Office ceded the Druisheim community to the Donauwörth District Office.
On January 1, 1880, the seven communities Bertoldsheim , Erlbach , Hatzenhofen , Mauern , Rennertshofen , Rohrbach and Trugenhofen were separated from the Donauwörth district office and added to the Neuburg an der Donau district office. At the same time, the municipalities of Brachstadt and Oppertshofen came from the Dillingen District Office and the Nordendorf municipality from the Wertingen District Office to the Donauwörth District Office.
On January 1, 1910, the Lauterbach community was assigned to the Wertingen district office.
district
On January 1, 1939, the uniform designation Landkreis was introduced in the German Reich . This is how the district office became the district of Donauwörth.
On April 1, 1940, the district received its last valid scope, when the previously independent city of Donauwörth became part of the district. Except for these two changes, the district area remained within the framework given since January 1, 1880 until 1972.
On July 1st, 1972 the district of Donauwörth was dissolved:
- The communities Ellgau and Nordendorf came to the district of Augsburg .
- The communities Gundelsheim and Möhren came to the district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen in the administrative region of Middle Franconia .
- All other communities and thus the largest part of the district were combined with the district of Nördlingen to form the new district of Nördlingen-Donauwörth . In addition, there were western parts of the former district of Neuburg an der Donau - the area around the town of Rain . On May 1, 1973 the new district was given the current name Donau-Ries .
