Until the church is planted
Monheim was built in the 7th / 8th Century. In 870 the Benedictine monastery was founded in the village. The elevation of Monheim to the city was carried out by the Counts of Oettingen before 1340. The small agricultural town was the seat of a nursing office and since 1505 it belonged to the Wittelsbach duchy of Neuburg-Sulzbach, which came to Bavaria in 1777 .
At the Gasthaus Lamm a stone plaque reminds of Luther's stay in Monheim in 1518 on his escape from Augsburg. After a restful night in Monheim, the reformer continued his way to Saxony via Nuremberg. In the course of the Reformation, the Benedictine monastery was dissolved in 1533. In 1697 Jews immigrated to Monheim; they had to leave Monheim again in 1741. A testimony to Jewish activity in Monheim is today's town hall, built by Abraham Elias Model between 1714 and 1720. Monheim had a city court with its own magistrate rights. In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .
19th and 20th centuries
The district court district of Monheim, from 1879 district court district , simultaneously formed one of the two districts of the Donauwörth district office until 1919 .
The Monheim District Court was dissolved in 1957, and a branch of the Donauwörth District Court existed until 1959.

coat of arms
A golden crescent moon lying, lying in blue, raised by a six-pointed golden star.
The star probably refers to the ancient breweries in Monheim. Their guild symbol was the hexagram; from this the six-pointed star developed.
The half moon: The growing crescent moon refers to the Count of Cimbri from the Zabergau , who married a Baroness von Monheim in 1179 and had this emblem in his coat of arms.
