Martin Lechner

Martin Lechner (born August 9, 1951 in Warching ) is a German theologian and university professor . Until 2013 he held the chair for youth pastoral care at the Philosophical-Theological University of Benediktbeuern .

After graduating from high school in 1971 at the Humanist Gymnasium in Eichstätt , Lechner studied social work at the Catholic Foundation University of Munich ( Benediktbeuern department ) and philosophy at the Philosophical-Theological University of Benediktbeuern until 1975 . From 1975 to 1977 he was education officer of the Catholic rural youth movement in the diocese of Eichstätt , after which he did his community service in an institution for disabled people. In 1979 he began studying theology at the Friedrich Wilhelm University of Bonn , which he continued after four semesters at the PTH Benediktbeuern and graduated in 1989 at the theological faculty of the University of Trier with Heinz Feilzer with the doctoral thesis "Pastoral Theology of Youth". In 1981 he took up a position at the Don Bosco Benediktbeuern youth pastoral institute, where he became head of the institute in 1992 . In 1999 he completed his habilitation under the guidance of Ottmar Fuchs at the Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg with the thesis "Theology in Social Work" and was appointed the following year in Benediktbeuern as the holder of the newly created chair for youth pastoral care. Together with a few employees, he developed the concept of a religion-sensitive education for home education. In 2007, in addition to this chair, he again took over the management of the youth pastoral institute, which he had given up in 2000. In 2008 he also became a representative for the Chair of Religious Education .

Private

Lechner is married and has three grown children. From 1979 to 1983 he was federal chairman of the Catholic rural youth movement. Since 2005 he has been chairman of the Lebenshilfe district association Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen eV
