Swell:

The railway line Fünfstetten – Monheim was a branch line in Bavaria . It branched off the Donauwörth – Treuchtlingen railway line in Fünfstetten and led to Monheim on the Franconian Alb . Last operated as the municipal infrastructure of the city of Monheim, the line was shut down after the termination of the connection contract in 1999 and then dismantled.

history

The Fünfstetten – Monheim branch line started operating on October 1, 1906 at the same time as the double-track Donauwörth – Treuchtlingen line.

Passenger traffic on the 5.6-kilometer route ceased on May 29, 1960. The city of Monheim then leased the line in order to maintain the connection for freight traffic . The operation continued to be carried out by the Deutsche Bundesbahn. Since this was not interested in a continuation, the city of Monheim bought the line on January 1, 1971. The traffic volume at that time was around eight to ten truckloads per week. The passenger train stop in Fünfstetten was closed for the 1981 summer schedule. On May 1, 1999, the connection in Fünfstetten was canceled by DB Cargo and the tracks on the DB side were dismantled.

A wooden coal platform was available in Monheim to supply the locomotives. The water supply in the locomotive shed had to be replenished from an elevated tank installed there. The engine shed, which was retained in its original form, was converted into a residential building with a truck garage. An entry signal of Bavarian design was available, which was operated from the locomotive shed. The reception building and the larger wooden goods shed in Monheim now serve as a club house for the local pigeon breeders' association.

Operation as a museum railway

From 1981 to 1997 the line was used as a museum railway by the Munich Railway Club and the Bavarian Railway Museum in Nördlingen .

For the museum train, the Luci steam locomotive (built in 1916 by Orenstein & Koppel , Berlin), later the Ries steam locomotive (built in 1941 by Henschel as a two-axle work locomotive of the type B250 "Riebeck" and delivered as locomotive 9 to the Lübeck blast furnace) was used. The 86 333 was used from 1995 to 1996 .

The Gmeinder diesel locomotive Südzucker AG, Plant Rain / Lech 2 (V 5064/1957, 130 HP, B-dh) is set up in front of the building on a short section of track , which is used by Münsinger Erdbau in Tagmersheim and on the Monheim-Fünfstetten museum railway was.
