Until the church is planted

In the 15th century, the noble family expanded the place into their residence and renamed it Wallerstein. In 1500 the right to market was granted by Emperor Maximilian I. From the same year the place was also part of the Swabian Empire .

In 1648 the castle was destroyed by the Swedes and the ruling family built a new residence below the residential wing, which was given its current classicistic appearance in 1804. With the Rhine Confederation Act 1806, the place came to the Kingdom of Bavaria . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

  • Plague Column or Trinity Column, Wallerstein's landmark in the center of the village.
Count Anton Karl von Oettingen-Wallerstein had the Wallerstein plague column built by the sculptor Johann Georg Bschorer from Oberndorf am Lech based on the model of Bohemian plague columns and the Viennese plague column on Graben from 1722–1725 . The rich figural decoration of the column shows at the feet of the Trinity Mary and the Saints Rochus , Sebastian and Antonius of Padua . A Latin inscription (Hic Canis…) means: “Here the dog watches, defends the arrows, [and] the lilies heal; thus lilies, arrows, [and] the dog help. ”The chronogram means“ The wild plague is far from home and home ”and gives the year 1722.
  • The Jewish cemetery in the direction of Nördlingen is a reminder of the former presence of Jewish life in the village. The grave of a concentration camp prisoner who was shot and killed , probably from a death march in spring 1945, is located in the cemetery .
