Ignaz von Beecke (born October 23, 1733 in Wimpfen am Neckar , † January 2, 1803 in Wallerstein ) was a German composer and pianist .

Life

Nothing is known about musical training; it can therefore be assumed that he has acquired his knowledge and skills in this area on his own.

In the fifties of the 18th century he first served as an officer. In 1759 he came to the Wallersteiner Hof as adjutant to the Hereditary Prince Kraft Ernst von Oettingen-Wallerstein. In addition, he celebrated his first successes as a pianist here, and his first compositions were also composed during this time. In 1763 he became director of court music here. He held this position until his death. As the director of the court orchestra, he helped it gain a high reputation. The conductor Antonio Rosetti and numerous virtuosos such as Joseph Fiala and Joseph Reicha performed under his direction . Between 1766 and 1772 he traveled several times to Paris, where he had contacts with Christoph Willibald Gluck , and there he was granted the royal privilege to have his works printed. On the recommendation of Johann Adolph Hasse , he settled in Vienna, where he had at least one joint appearance with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , whom he had already met in Paris in 1766. His opera “Claudine von Villa Bella” (1780), composed for the “Deutsche Compagnie” at the Burgtheater, was unsuccessful. Ignaz von Beecke was Friedrich the Great's guest in Berlin in 1791 and stayed several times at the court of the Princes of Thurn and Taxis in Regensburg. He also worked temporarily for Prince Ludwig Carl Franz Philipp Leopold zu Hohenlohe-Waldenburg-Bartenstein .

Christian Friedrich Daniel Schubart dedicated his “Musical Rhapsodies” to him in 1786. It is mainly about piano works, symphonies , singspiele , chamber music, songs , sacred music, as well as operas and pastorals . However, his extensive oeuvre has almost completely been forgotten.
