history

The plain between the Lech and the Danube was already inhabited in the Early Bronze Age , as evidenced by the discovery of a grave near Hamlar. During Roman times, the Via Claudia Augusta led through what is now the local area.

The hamlet of Baebenheim (home of Babo), Aspach and Hameler is mentioned in a document around 1250. The manor was very fragmented. Due to the proximity to the Reichspflege Wörth ( Donauwörth ) there was a strong dependency. Marcus Fugger and Nikolaus Fugger acquired parts of the place. In the Thirty Years War , heavy devastation was wreaked by the Swedes under Gustav II Adolf .

The Bavarian Elector acquired the Reichspflege in 1739 and it remained a separate territory until 1806. 1818 was related to the implementation of the community edict in Bavaria founded the town Asbach.

Until the 19th century, the places remained insignificant hamlets . In 1844 the Ludwig-Süd-Nord-Bahn was opened, which runs directly through the town. During this time, Maximilian Droßbach set up a linen spinning mill in Bäumenheim . With that, Bäumenheim quickly developed into an industrial location.

During the Second World War , part of the Messerschmitt works was relocated to the town. From August 1944 to April 1945 was on the site of today's company Dechentreiter the concentration camp Asbach. The approximately 500 concentration camp prisoners had to do forced labor in arms production. Among the dead in a bomb attack on March 19, 1945 were numerous unknown concentration camp prisoners, who are commemorated by a memorial stone.

On November 18, 1958, the community of Asbach was renamed Asbach-Bäumenheim. From May 1, 1978 to December 31, 1979, it was part of the Asbach-Bäumenheim administrative community .
