history

Until the church is planted

The Kaisheim Monastery and the Holy Cross Monastery in Donauwörth were the most important landlords in Buchdorf in the Middle Ages . However, the neighboring communities of Baierfeld and Bergstetten play a much more important role: Both are mentioned in a document from Bishop Gebhard von Eichstätt as early as 1137 , and even the Baierfeld pastor Hartwig is named here. The blackest day in the history of the place was Barnabastag (June 11) in 1504. Maximilian I had the village burned down on this day, as the Buchdorf farmers had previously murdered an imperial messenger in the context of the dispute over the succession in the Wittelsbach house had. Buchdorf was temporarily part of the Duchy of Palatinate-Neuburg . According to the provisions of the Augsburg Religious Peace, its residents were Evangelical Lutheran during this period (1554 to 1618).

In 1736 the foundation stone of today's parish church of St. Ulrich was laid. The plans for the new building came from Gabriel de Gabrieli (1671–1747). Remains of the Gothic and perhaps also a Romanesque predecessor building are preserved in the first two floors of the tower. One of the most valuable pieces of equipment is the late Gothic rosary Madonna, on whose robe an imperial eagle can be seen. It comes from the Imperial Abbey of Kaisheim, which owned the patronage . 45 men from Buchdorf were killed in World War I and 63 in World War II.
