Johann Georg Hitzelberger

Johann Georg Hitzelberger (born March 26, 1714 in Münsterhausen , † June 12, 1792 in Wallerstein ) was a Swabian plasterer and builder of the Rococo . From 1769 he was court builder in Wallerstein and mainly received orders from the Kaisheim monastery .

Life

Johann Georg Hitzelberger was born as the son of a bricklayer in Münsterhausen, a municipality in the district of Günzburg in the Bavarian administrative district of Swabia . Around 1740/42 he settled in Ziemetshausen in the district of Günzburg.

career

Johann Georg Hitzelberger was influenced by the master builders of the Wessobrunn School such as Dominikus Zimmermann and Joseph Schmuzer . Together with the architects Joseph Dossenberger and Thomas Schaidhauf , he was involved in the renovation of the Taxis Castle in Trugenhofen . On behalf of Cölestin I. Meermoos, the abbot of the Kaisheim monastery, he built the parish church of St. Peter in Tapfheim, his first important building. From 1769 until his death he was court builder in Wallerstein.
