Werner Meyer (historian, 1909)

Werner Meyer (born November 25, 1909 in Hanover , † September 18, 1987 in Munich ) was a German preservationist and castle researcher .

Life

Meyer studied architecture at the Technical University of Hanover , where he was awarded a Dr.-Ing. In 1941 with his work on "the German castle" . received his doctorate . Meyer was not only concerned with architecture and art history , but also worked for many years in the Bavarian monument preservation . Already from 1934 was for the Bavarian Landesdenkmalamt active, which he finally as until his retirement in 1974, public curator belonged.

He wrote numerous books, essays and articles about German castles, which earned him the nickname “Burgen-Meyer”.
