Joseph Dossenberger
Joseph Dossenberger (born March 9, 1721 in Wollishausen ; † May 15, 1785 in Wettenhausen ) was a Swabian master builder , a representative of Rococo and early classicism .
Live and act
Joseph Dossenberger was the son of the master bricklayer and miller Joseph Dossenberger and brother of the builder Johann Adam Dossenberger (1716–1759). He apprenticed to his father, worked with him and his brother and was involved in building the parish church of St. Laurentius in Reinhartshausen from 1739 and in building the parish church in Wollishausen from 1747.
In 1748 he became the builder of the Augustinian Canons of Wettenhausen . In his first marriage he was with the widow Maria Anna Stengelmayr, geb. Winkler, married. After her early death, the now 46-year-old married Maria Magdalena Kramer, who was 22 years younger than her, five weeks later. The marriage had ten children.
In addition to his employment in Wettenhausen, he held the position of inspector and director of civil engineering for the Margraviate of Burgau and as such was responsible for the design of Günzburg . The builder, who enjoyed a good reputation, also received orders from aristocratic families such as von Riedheim, von Freyberg, von Stauffenberg, von Vöhlin, von Eyb and von Thurn und Taxis . In addition, he worked as an appraiser and as a road builder and interior designer himself, ran a paint, iron and building materials trade and, from 1778, an economy.
Joseph Dossenberger built or changed over 40 sacred buildings in Swabia. The most important are in Mindelaltheim (the cruciform pilgrimage church Heilig Kreuz ), Dettingen, Oberelchingen (former monastery church St. Peter and Paul ), Waldkirch (parish and pilgrimage church of the Virgin Mary ), Oxenbronn , Autenried , Scheppach (parish church of the Assumption of Mary ), Dischingen and Deisenhausen , to name just a few. The design for the new synagogue in Ichenhausen (1781) may also go back to him . He was also responsible for the construction of around 20 parsonages and built, for example, the summer residence of the Wettenhauser Pröpste in Großkötz , as well as the former Barracks in Günzburg , which now houses the Günzburg Adult Education Center.
