history
The earliest known settlement was by the Celts . Burial mounds on Kalvarienberg and a Keltenschanze in Heidengehau testify to this . In the 3rd and 4th centuries the Alemanni settled the country and between Mindel and Kammel. The old Roman road from Augsburg (Augusta) to Günzburg (Guntia) also ran here. The place name is said to come from an early Alemannic settler named "Wetticho".
Wettenhausen was an independent municipality. On January 1, 1971, the municipality of Hammerstetten was incorporated in the course of the municipal territorial reform , on July 1, 1972 Wettenhausen was merged with other municipalities to form the newly founded municipality of Kammeltal.
