Joseph Schmuzer

Joseph Schmuzer (also Joseph Schmutzer ; born February 13, 1683 in Wessobrunn ; † March 19, 1752 ibid) was a South German builder and plasterer of the so-called Wessobrunn School .

Like his father Johann Schmuzer , he worked exclusively in the area of ​​the southern German Baroque and its late forms up to the Rococo . As his father's successor, he was Wessobrunn's master builder.

His main works are the parish church in Oberammergau (1736–1742) and the baroque transformation of the collegiate church in Rottenbuch (1727–1746) and the monastery church of Schongau . From 1723 Johann Georg Gigl worked with him as a journeyman.

His son Franz Xaver Schmuzer (1713–1775) was also a plasterer.
