The Catholic branch church St. Pankratius in Ramsach , a district of the municipality of Penzing in the Upper Bavarian district of Landsberg am Lech , is a late Baroque church that was built in the early 18th century on the site of an older predecessor church. The church is dedicated to St. Pancras , a Roman martyr who is venerated as one of the five ice saints.

history

The Ramsach Church is mentioned for the first time in 1554. It was badly damaged during the Thirty Years' War and construction began in 1711. The building was probably completed in 1719, as indicated by the year on the roof. The Church of St. Pankratius is one of the first independent church buildings by Joseph Schmuzer . The building was commissioned by either the Wessobrunn monastery or the owner of Hofmark Windach .

Exterior construction

The outer walls are structured by flat, rectangular glare fields into which large arched windows with stepped reveal are cut. A roof turret with an octagonal structure rises above the west gable ; the original onion dome was replaced by a pointed helmet in the 19th century. On the south side of the nave there is an open sign with a hipped roof .

inner space

The nave , a three-axis hall space , is covered by a flat needle cap barrel that rests on Tuscan pilasters . In the east it opens into a retracted, semicircular closed choir , which is also covered by a needle cap barrel. A double gallery forms the western end of the nave , the upper floor of which was added in 1829.

Apostles cycle

On the walls of the nave and choir, a cycle of apostles is painted, which dates from around 1720 and was uncovered again in 1980.

High altar
  • The high altar and the two side altars date from the time the church was built. All three altars have a two-column structure. The central figure of the high altar, St. Pancras, the patron saint of the church, is attributed to Lorenz Luidl , as are the side figures of John the Baptist and the Evangelist John as well as God the Father in the excerpt and the two angels on the coronation of the altar. The figure of St. Joseph with the lily in his hand and Maria Immaculata at the feet of St. Pankratius are considered the work of his son Johann . The gilded tabernacle is made in the Rococo style. The main figures of the side altars, St. Ulrich on the left and a crescent moon Madonna on the right , are works of the late Baroque.
  • The colored carved figure of Anna herself third on the north side altar comes from the late Gothic period and was later revised.
  • The two figures on the choir arch , Johannes Nepomuk on the left and St. Franz Xaver on the right , date from the second quarter of the 18th century and are attributed to Johann Luidl.
  • The painful Mother of God under the crucifix on the south wall of the nave is dated to the same time .
  • The colored crucifix is ​​a late Gothic work and dates from around 1520/30.
  • The dungeon savior in the wall niche next to it comes from the late baroque.
  • The choir stalls and pews were created around 1845.
