Arnold von Rümker

Arnold von Rümker (born June 15, 1942 in Breslau ) is a German agricultural economist and association official. From 2013 to 2017 he was President of Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe (JUH).

Life

Arnold von Rümker came from an agricultural family who lived from 1923 to 1938, first in Emersleben in the Vorharz region near Halberstadt, then in Silesia and, from their flight in 1945, in Greußenheim in Lower Franconia . He was the youngest of five children from the marriage of Arnold (1895–1944) and Margret (1900–1956) von Rümker. His grandfather was the agricultural scientist Kurt von Rümker (1859–1940).

Arnold von Rümker, an orphan since 1956, studied agricultural science at the University of Göttingen after completing an agricultural apprenticeship. His doctoral studies at the Institute for Foreign Agriculture at the University of Göttingen led him, among other things, to research stays in Malawi in Southeast Africa . At the beginning of the 1970s he worked for the German Development Agency for Developing Countries (GAWI) , since 1974 for the German Society for Technical Cooperation (gtz) , including at the World Bank in Washington, DC From 1998 to 2002, he held managerial positions under among other things as head of personnel for the German Society for Technical Cooperation based in Eschborn near Frankfurt.

Von Rümker has been involved in the Order of St. John since 1989. In 2007 he was appointed honorary member of the Berlin / Brandenburg regional association of Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe (JUH) and in 2010 he was appointed honorary member of the federal board of the aid organization for the areas of humanitarian aid abroad and voluntary work. In November 2013 he succeeded Hans-Peter von Kirchbach in the office of President of Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe, the Protestant aid organization with over 50,000 employees and 1.5 million supporting members.

Von Rümker was accepted into the Order of St. John in 1989 as a Knight of Honor of the Provincial Saxon Cooperative and in 1998 made a Knight of the Knights of St. John .

Von Rümker is married and has six children. He lives in Berlin.
