The Catholic parish church St. Georg is a small hall building in the center of Bad Bayersoien ( Garmisch-Partenkirchen district , Upper Bavaria ). The church was redesigned and refurbished in the 18th century. In the 19th century, some of the movable fittings from the church were removed. In the course of the last interior renovation, the sacred space was enriched again through a few acquisitions.

history

In 1315 Bayersoien was mentioned as a branch of Ammergau. During the 15th or 16th century a late Gothic new building was built, which was rebuilt and expanded in 1717 in baroque forms. The stucco work was done around 1720/25 in the manner of Joseph Schmuzer . Around 1780 Franz Seraph Zwinck painted the three frescoes in the main vault.

Around 1880/90 the altars and the pulpit were replaced by neo-Gothic pieces and Zwinck's frescoes were painted over. In 1932 the community decided to expose the pictures. In 1961/62 the historicizing furnishings also disappeared from the church.

On the occasion of the extensive renovation of the church in 1993-98, a baroque altar was purchased from Ettal Abbey and set up as a high altar. The paintings on the side altars are also new acquisitions, the acrylic glass frames are modern.

description

The simple hall church is located in the middle of the cemetery on a small hill. A two-bay, retracted choir is attached to the four-axle nave . The tower is on the northwest corner. An eight-sided attachment with an onion dome rises above the four-sided substructure.

The interior is spanned by shallow needle cap barrels that rest on pilasters in the nave . The restrained stucco decoration is reminiscent of Schmuzer's work in the entrance hall of the Wessobrunn monastery gate . In the nave, three curved frames frame the allegories of faith, hope and love by Franz Seraph Zwinck, known as the “Lüftlmaler”.

The choir is a little lower than the nave. A curtain drapery is painted over the arch, the vault of the choir was only sparsely decorated during the general renovation.

Furnishing

The newly acquired high altar presents itself in simple, early classical forms. The probably baroque altarpiece with the depiction of Saint George still comes from the old furnishings and is flanked by statues of Saints Barbara and Catherine.

Next to the high altar are two classicist confessionals (around 1780). The baptismal font comes from the same time, the baptism of Christ is depicted on the top .

The carved pews in the nave date from the mid-18th century.

The large, baroque crucifix on the south wall served as a replacement for the high altar until the last renovation. Next to it, St. John Nepomuk stands in a wall niche (second half of the 18th century). On the other side there is a Mater dolorosa (Our Lady of Sorrows) on a console.

In the lower west gallery are enclosed paintings of the evangelists and church fathers (beginning of the 18th century). The Stations of the Cross on their stunning gold frame created Ignaz Paur in 1779. (signature).
