Town hall Monheim (Swabia)
The town hall in Monheim , a town in the Donau-Ries district in the Bavarian administrative district of Swabia , was built around 1730. The town hall at Marktplatz 23 is a protected architectural monument .
history
The Jewish court factor Abraham Elias Model bought a former brewery and inn for 1025 guilders and had a house built in the same place around 1730 with rich furnishings. In 1739 Model was appointed by the Prince of Oettingen-Wallerstein as a “Cabinets and Cammer Factor” because of many years of useful service. In 1741, Model settled in Harburg because of the expulsion of the Jews from Monheim and sold his house to the city of Monheim, which set up its town hall there.
architecture
The baroque building on a square floor plan with three floors has five axes each on the front and side. The cranked hipped roof is provided with gabled attic windows. On the market side is the portal with a staircase, ox-eye and a wide, projecting gate gable. Most of the rooms have stucco ceilings with ribbon work and fruit garlands.
The brightly colored ceiling of the conference room is richly decorated with ornaments, picture motifs and Hebrew lettering. The star-shaped lettering above the entrance door contains praise for the Torah and the request for redemption from the diaspora . In the hall and the adjoining rooms, scenes from the Old Testament are depicted in medallions : Jacob's blessing, Isaac's sacrifice , Jacob with the ladder to heaven , King David and Moses .
