The town hall in Donauwörth , a town in the Donau-Ries district in the Bavarian administrative district of Swabia , was originally built in the Middle Ages . The town hall at Rathausgasse 1 is a protected architectural monument .

History and description

The three-storey main building with a double flight of stairs is essentially medieval. After 1853 a regotization took place . The building was destroyed twice by fires in the 14th century. In the 16th century the third floor was added and at the end of the 18th century the town hall received its mansard roof .

The city coat of arms with the double-headed eagle, which was given to the imperial city by Emperor Charles V in 1530, can be seen above the steps of the town hall .

In 1973/75 and 1985/86, the town hall was extensively renovated and the interior was changed to meet the requirements of the function.
