The district of Lauf an der Pegnitz , officially the district of Lauf adPegnitz , until 1961 the district of Lauf (Pegnitz) , was a district in the Bavarian administrative district of Middle Franconia . Before the beginning of the Bavarian regional reform in the early 1970s, the district comprised 37 communities.

District Office
The district office of Lauf (Pegnitz) was formed in 1908 by separating 39 municipalities from the district offices of Hersbruck and Pegnitz .
On January 1, 1932, communities of the Forchheim district office were added.

On January 1, 1939, the designation district was introduced as everywhere else in the German Reich . The district office of Lauf (Pegnitz), which has been officially known as the district of Lauf adPegnitz since the 1960s, became the district office .
On July 1, 1972, a new and larger district of Lauf an der Pegnitz was formed in the course of the regional reform in Bavaria
- the old district Lauf, except the municipalities Beerbach , Benz village Eckenhaid and Herpersdorf that the Erlangen-Höchstadt came
- the district of Hersbruck
- the district Nuremberg except the municipalities Brunn and Fischbach near Nuremberg , which were incorporated into the independent city of Nuremberg and the town of Stein near Nuremberg , which the district Fürth came

Other former communities were Veldershof , which was incorporated into Lauf on June 1, 1927, and Rabenshof , which was incorporated into Siegersdorf on July 1, 1931.
License Plate
On July 1, 1956, the district was assigned the distinctive sign LAU when the vehicle registration number that is still valid today was introduced . It is continuously issued in the district of Nürnberger Land to this day.
