The parish village of Kirchröttenbach is a district of the Middle Franconian market Schnaittach in the district of Nürnberger Land and is located directly on the border with the district of Erlangen-Höchstadt .

The parish village is about 20 km northeast of Nuremberg . Neighboring towns are Illhof , Freiröttenbach , Germersberg , Laipersdorf and Herpersdorf .

The village "Rotenbach" was first mentioned in a document around 1054, and since around 1500 it has been called Kirchröttenbach. The brook Röttenbach , which rises 2 km northeast of the village, gave the village its name. It flows over Großbellhofen into the Pegnitz (river) . The first church was probably built before the foundation of the Bamberg diocese , i.e. before 1007, as it was consecrated to Saint Walburga . Around 1500 the church formed a fortified church castle. The Kalvarienberg with Kreuzkapelle and Kreuzweg was built in 1746. In the 18th century the place was a popular place of pilgrimage . The rural settlement was subordinate to the then Rothenberg High Court District.

The formerly independent municipality of Kirchröttenbach was incorporated into Schnaittach in 1972 as part of the municipal reform.

The settlement area has grown considerably due to extensive construction area designation. Small and medium-sized businesses are located here. Kirchröttenbach has a predominantly rural character.

State road St 2236 runs from Eschenau to Schnaittach 500 m south of the village .
