The village of Speikern is part of the Middle Franconian municipality of Neunkirchen am Sand .
history
Speikern was first mentioned in a document on April 23, 1289. It can be assumed that the place name , which comes from Latin (spicarium = storage, barn), arose from the many grain barns. In 1962, during archaeological excavations, a Celtic clay figure, the Speikern rider , was discovered, which made the place widely known. After years of self-government, Speikern was incorporated into the Neunkirchen am Sand community in 1972 .
