The district of Rothenburg ob der Tauber (until January 1, 1939: District Office Rothenburg ob der Tauber ) belonged to the Bavarian administrative district of Middle Franconia . Before the beginning of the Bavarian regional reform in the early 1970s, the district comprised 61 communities. The district did not have a coat of arms.

history

District Office

The district office of Rothenburg ob der Tauber was formed in 1862 through the merger of the regional courts of the older order Rothenburg and Schillingsfürst .

On the occasion of the reform of the layout of the Bavarian district offices, the district office of Rothenburg ob der Tauber received municipalities from the district office of Ansbach and the municipality of Preuntsfelden from the district office of Uffenheim on January 1, 1880 .

On January 1, 1939, the designation district was introduced as everywhere else in the German Reich . The district office became the Rothenburg ob der Tauber district.

On April 1, 1940, the independent city of Rothenburg ob der Tauber was incorporated into the district. This was reversed on April 1, 1948.

On July 1, 1972, most of the Rothenburg ob der Tauber district was incorporated into the Ansbach district together with the Feuchtwangen and Dinkelsbühl districts and the previously independent city ​​of Rothenburg ob der Tauber as part of the regional reform in Bavaria . The communities of Ermetzhof and Steinach an der Ens came to the district of Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim .
