history

Originally the place was called "Scheckenbach". In order to avoid confusion with "Scheckenbach on the plain" (= Oberscheckenbach ), the place was later also referred to as "Scheckenbach an der Tauber" and "Unterscheckenbach".

St. John Baptista was a parish that had 144 members in 1716 and 176 members in 1777. In 1971 St. Johannes merged with St. Nikolaus (Adelshofen) and St. Veit (Tauberzell) to form a parish. The Tauberscheckenbach parish currently has 148 members (as of 2010).

In 1802 there were 28 households, all of which were subject to the imperial city of Rothenburg .

With the community edict (early 19th century) Tauberscheckenbach was assigned to the Bettwar tax district . A little later, the rural community Tauberscheckenbach was formed. It was subordinate to the regional court of Rothenburg in administration and jurisdiction . The municipality had an area of 3.115 km². In the course of the territorial reform , this was incorporated into Adelshofen on July 1, 1972.
