history

In 1383 the imperial city of Rothenburg acquired the rights to the place from a cake master in Nordenberg . Originally Bettwar was a parish village . The parish had 264 residents in 1745 and 277 in 1775. In 1799 there were 23 to 25 subject families , all of whom had the imperial city of Rothenburg as their landlord .

With the community edict (early 19th century), the tax district Bettwar was formed, to which Possenmühle and Tauberscheckenbach belonged. A little later, the rural community of Steinsfeld was formed without Tauberscheckenbach . It was subordinate to the regional court of Rothenburg in administration and jurisdiction . The municipality had an area of 2.635 km². As part of the regional reform , it was incorporated into the municipality of Gattenhofen on July 1, 1971. This was incorporated into Steinsfeld on May 1, 1978.
