history

In 1383 the place with Nordenberg was bought by the imperial city of Rothenburg . In November 1688, four buildings were destroyed in the so-called French murderous fire, causing damage of over 1635 guilders. In 1800 there were six households in the town, all of which were subject to the imperial city of Rothenburg.

With the community edict (early 19th century) Ellwingshofen was assigned to the tax district of Gattenhofen and the rural community of Steinsfeld.
