The European Academy for Music and Performing Arts Montepulciano , also named after its seat in the Palazzo Ricci in the small Tuscan town of Montepulciano , is the only German cultural project in Italy that is primarily dedicated to music . The main idea of the academy is to enable encounters between highly talented young artists from Europe, analogous to other German cultural institutions in Italy.

The academy is sponsored by the Cologne University of Music and Dance . The business is run by the Palazzo Ricci eV association, founded in 2002 , which has ensured the expansion and progress of the project since then.

history

In 2000, thanks to a contract with the municipality of Montepulciano, the Cologne University of Music and Dance was given the opportunity to use the Palazzo Ricci , which was built around 1540 and named after its client, Cardinal Giovanni Ricci , and to take over the restoration of the building in return . After extensive restoration work with the help of sponsorship money, it was reopened as the European Academy in June 2001. The academy runs from May to October.

From 2010, the academy was expanded to include the newly founded College for Music and Art Montepulciano , which is an academic institution of art and music colleges in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and financially supported by the Ministry for Innovation, Science and Research of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia will be carried. In addition to the Cologne University of Music and Dance , the Detmold University of Music , the Robert Schumann University of Düsseldorf , the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, the Cologne Academy of Media Arts and the Münster Art Academy are involved . The aim of this institution is to promote particularly qualified students and lecturers and to give them the opportunity to work scientifically and artistically across disciplines.
