Oberscheckenbach is a district of the municipality of earsbach in the district of Ansbach in Middle Franconia .

geography

The church village is in the open, about one kilometer southwest of the eponymous capital of the municipality on the Gickelhäuser Bach (called Scheckenbach on the upper course), a right Tauber tributary that drains to the southwest.

The state road 2419 leading to Reichardsroth (2.8 km to the north) or to Gumpelshofen over after Reichelshofen (2.7 km south). The district road AN 32 leads to Gickelhausen (2 km west) or to Ohrbach (0.9 km north-east). A communal road leads to Adelshofen to AN 8 (3.3 km southwest). The 16 km long Faith Trail leads through Oberscheckenbach, on which Christian symbol stones made of Franconian shell limestone are set up.

history

Originally the place was called "Scheckenbach". In order to avoid confusion with "Scheckenbach an der Tauber" (= Tauberscheckenbach ), it was later also referred to as "Scheckenbach on the plain" and "Oberscheckenbach". Presumably it was founded before the 8th century. When the lords of the Red Castle donated a chapel for the new converts in the 8th century, the place already existed.

In 1306 Albert von Hohenloch sold his goods to the Heilsbronn monastery .

In the late Middle Ages the chapel gave way to a choir tower , St. Kilian's Church , which was a branch of St. Johannis (Ohrbach) . The church was badly damaged in the Thirty Years War . In 1667 the tower and nave had to be largely dismantled and rebuilt, the tower was kept one floor lower. In 1891 a cemetery was laid out around the church.

Under the leadership of the French general Ezéchiel de Mélac , French murder torches set fire to 12 houses in November 1688 and caused at least 4,285 guilders in damage.

With the community edict at the beginning of the 19th century, Oberscheckenbach was assigned to the tax district earsbach . A little later, the rural community of Oberscheckenbach was formed. It was subordinate to the regional court of Rothenburg in administration and jurisdiction . Gumpelshofen was not reassigned until later, but before 1840 from Ohrbach to Oberscheckenbach. In 1961, the municipality of Oberscheckenbach had an area of 5.548 km². In the course of the municipal reform in 1972, it was incorporated into Ohrbach.
