history
Until the church is planted
The village of Diebach was created around the year 700. A toll and protective castle ( Diebach Castle ) of the Lords of Diebach was mentioned in a document around 1236 and was owned by the von Fürbringer family of Rothenburg patricians between 1557 and 1651. The place itself was first mentioned in 1249 as "Dieppach". The place name is derived from the water body of the same name (now called Wohnbach), whose defining word is “thief”. It remains to be seen whether this should simply refer to a remote or low-lying stream or refer to a corresponding event.
During the Thirty Years' War , Upper Austrian exiles immigrated to Diebach, one of their own, Matthias Pantzer from Stockerau, acquired the castle in 1651, which then changed hands frequently. In 1803 the village became part of Bavaria. In 1817, Diebach Castle became so dilapidated that it was demolished.
With the community edict (early 19th century), the tax district Diebach was formed, to which the towns of Bestleinsmühle , Bockenfeld , Böllersmühle , Heckenmühle , Schwarzenmühle and Wolfsau belonged. A little later, the rural community of Diebach was formed, to which the places Bestleinsmühle, Böllersmühle, Heckenmühle and Wolfsau belonged. Its administration and jurisdiction were subordinate to the Schillingsfürst Lordship Court (from 1840 Schillingsfürst Regional Court ). The community originally had an area of 9.839 km².
Incorporations
On May 1, 1978, the previously independent communities of Bellershausen and Oestheim were incorporated.
Population development
In the period from 1988 to 2018, the population increased from 912 to 1134 by 222 inhabitants or 24.3%.

Founding of the coat of arms: The community of Diebach has consisted of the formerly independent communities of Bellershausen, Diebach and Oestheim since 1978. The foliage crown comes from the coat of arms of the Lords of Diebach, a local noble family that can be verified in the Middle Ages. The wave bar stands for the place name. The rust is the attribute of St. Laurentius and represents the place Bellershausen, whose parish church is dedicated to this saint. The water mermaid stands for the place Oestheim and refers to the legend of the water maids. Three of them came from the bottomless hole to dance in Oberoestheim. They made their human companions wait in vain. The next day the water was colored with her blood - her father had killed her. |
