history
Until the church is planted
The place is first mentioned in a document dated between 1183 and 1195 as "bison". The place name is derived from a water body of the same name, which owes its name to the bison , which probably used the river as a drinking place.
The place was created at the ford over the Wieseth river, there was a pilgrimage chapel (St. Vitus' chapel). A founding legend has been handed down: a priest loses a consecrated host when crossing the river. This is swallowed by a fish. When this is caught, the unharmed host is found in the fish.
There were originally six landlords in Wieseth : Heilsbronn Monastery , citizens of the imperial city of Dinkelsbühl , the Lords of Thann, the Lords of Künsberg , the Lords of Seckendorff and the Herrieden Collegiate Foundation . These were in an ongoing dispute over various claims. The Fraisch exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbach Oberamt Feuchtwangen .
In 1732 there were 59 properties with 60 teams. The village and township government had the stewardship Forndorf held. Were landlords
- the Oberamt Feuchtwangen: administrator's office Forndorf (2 properties with a farm, 2 properties with a blacksmith's, 3 properties with baking rights, 1 property with a pottery, 1 property with a bathroom, 32 properties), the administrator's office in Waizendorf (1 property with a farm, 1 farm with double crew , 1 yard, 1 estate with pottery, 4 estates);
- the Eichstätt bishopric (1 property with an inn, 1 property with baking rights and forge, 4 small estates); 5 properties were subordinate to the Herrieden Chapter , 1 property to the Arberg-Ornbau caste office ;
- the manor Thann (1 property with an inn);
- Free owners were 1 castle and 1 property with a forge.
There was also 1 church, 1 chapel, 1 rectory, 1 schoolhouse and 1 shepherd's house. Towards the end of the Old Kingdom there were 54 properties, 47 of which were subordinate to the Oberamt Feuchtwangen, 6 to the Eichstätt monastery and 1 to the Thann manor. From 1797 to 1808 the place was subordinate to the Justice and Chamber Office Feuchtwangen .
In 1806 Wieseth came to the Kingdom of Bavaria . With the community edict (early 19th century), the Wieseth tax district was formed, to which Fetschendorf , Forndorf , Höfstetten , Obermosbach , Pflattermühle , Schnepfenmühle , Steigmühle , Untermosbach and Zimmerdorf belonged. A little later the rural community of Wieseth was formed, which, with the exception of Fetschendorf and Obermosbach, was congruent with the tax district. It was subject to the Feuchtwangen Regional Court in terms of administration and jurisdiction . The community originally had an area of 10.574 km².
religion
The community has been predominantly Evangelical Lutheran since 1559.

In the period from 1988 to 2018, the population increased from 1294 to 1332 by 38 inhabitants or 2.9%.

badges and flags
The Wieseth community has had a coat of arms since 1974.
Blazon : "Under a shield head in gold,divided three times by silver and blue,a black arched bridge , underneath a red bison head ."
Red-white-blue municipal flag |
|
Justification of the coat of arms: The black arched bridge is reminiscent of a special architectural monument in the municipality. On the bridge leading over the Wieseth there was a pilgrimage chapel, which was dedicated to St. Vitus and sold for demolition in 1807. The bison head is talking for the place name, which is derived from the names of rivers. The shield head, divided by silver and blue, is reminiscent of the master chefs from Nordenberg , who owned the Fronhof Castle near Wieseth. |
