Herrieden Collegiate Foundation

The Herrieden Collegiate Foundation is a former monastery and later a collegiate foundation in Herrieden in Bavaria ( Diocese of Eichstätt ).

history

The monastery, consecrated to St. Vitus , was founded around 797 by Cadolt , a Frankish nobleman. Founding abbot was St. Deocar . At that time Gerhoh was Bishop of Eichstätt . From 797 to 888 Benedictine monastery (St. Salvator), it was the place of activity of canons from 888 . It was dissolved in 1806 in the course of secularization . The entire system was preserved. The Herrieden collegiate church became the local parish church. The archive and library were not transferred to the Eichstätt diocesan archive until 1935 and 1946, respectively .
