The Wohnbach is an 8.4 km long stream on the western slope of the Frankenhöhe in the Bavarian district of Ansbach , which flows into the upper Tauber in Diebach from the right and east .

geography

course

The residential stream is created at around 480  m above sea level. NHN at the north foot of the Schlossbergsporn about 1.2 km northeast of the city center of Schillingsfürst im Griesfeld right next to the road that connects the two associated villages Schafhof and Stilzendorf . From here, the stream first flows north for about a kilometer and touches a forest area belonging to the neighboring municipality of Buch am Wald before it turns west and runs through it. Finally, from the direction of Schafhof, a side stream flows past Margaretenbrünnl in the forest. At a little below 425  m above sea level. NHN he finally leaves the forest in the corridor around the Schillingsfürster suburb of Wohnbach . There it is reached from the north by the most catchment area and, on the longest strand, also the longest tributary Faulenberggraben . A little later, after passing the Neumühle belonging to it, the Davidsbach flows into the district of Diebach from the southeast . This arises on the outskirts of Schillingsfürst and has dug a striking and wide valley funnel into the western slope of the Frankenhöhe , through which the Romantic Road from Schillingsfürst enters into the now very wide and flat valley, in which it leads to the Wohnbach in its further west to north-west course to the mouth follows.

The next larger town on the run is Bellershausen a little further on in the left floodplain, after which another, this time shorter stream from the steep slope of the Frankenhöhe runs towards the northeast near the Pfeffermühle . The Wohnbach then crosses under the A 7 and continues westwards towards the community seat Diebach, where it flows west of the town center at the bridge of the state road 2247 from the left and east and at about 380  m above sea level. NHN flows into the northward running upper Tauber .

Catchment area

The residential stream has a catchment area of 16.7 km². It has approximately the contour of a triangle tapering to the west towards the confluence with a clearly thickened base in the east. It extends from east to west about 6.3 km long and at the eastern base from north to south about 5.5 km long. In its southeast corner is part of the small town of Schillingsfürst, the northeast corner is at the Sengelhof von Buch am Wald.

The highest point in the catchment area is 545.5  m above sea level. NN at Schillingsfürster Castle on the prominent west spur of the Frankenhöhe there . Another high elevation in the eastern area of the southern watershed is the other west spur Eichelberg (a little over 530  m above sea level ) a little west of Schillingsfürst, in the eastern area of the northern watershed the Kohlplatte, which is wooded like the Eichelberg ( 517  m above sea level ). West of the Faulenberg – Eichelberg line, the northern and southern watershed very quickly fall below 500  m above sea level. NHN from.

The northeast and eastern watershed separate the catchment area of the Altmühl tributary Hagenbach and its tributaries; the so conspicuous knees of Gründleinbach and Klingengraben as the eastward course of the upper Faulenberggraben are evidently the result of recent taps of the Gastenfelder Bach, which is heading eastward to the Hagenbach, due to the erosion of the Rhineland. In the south-east near Schillingsfürst, close behind the Scheide, the Wörnitz itself competes , which like the Altmühl runs to the Danube ; on this entire north-east to south-east section the watershed is therefore at the same time a major watershed between the Main on this side and the Danube on the other.

Behind the southwestern watershed, the Östheimer Mühlbach runs to the Tauber a little above the Wohnbach estuary, behind the northwestern one the Wolfsauer Graben and then the Kirnberger Mühlbach compete for the downward course of the river.

The lower parts of the catchment area in the west belong to the community of Diebach , the higher eastern parts mainly to Schillingsfürst . Only a few north-eastern peripheral areas, including in particular the Hintere Grasbühl and the Flurinsel around the Sengelhof, are part of the municipality of Buch am Wald . Apart from the towns on the river listed below, only the towns named for the tributaries are in the catchment area, if they are on the edge, often only partially. The area is only sparsely populated.

Most of the catchment area is open, the forest is mostly limited to steep slopes and the upper plateaus.

Tributaries
