The Hagenbach is a 14.4 km long brook in the district of Ansbach in western Bavaria , which flows into the upper Altmühl from the right and west-northwest at Leutershausen .
geography
course
The Hagenbach arises on the Frankenhöhe close to the hamlet Speierhof in the municipality of Gebsattel , whose eponymous capital lies beyond the nearby European main watershed between the Danube and the Rhine. The most distant and at the same time the highest but unstable source of the stream called Speierhofgraben in the wide bay around the Speierhof between the wooded mountains Spitaleck in the northeast and Kohlplatte in the southwest rises around 600 meters southwest of the hamlet at about 485 m above sea level. NHN on a Hangwaldeck. From here the brook runs northeast towards the hamlet and unites in the middle of the bay at a little below 475 m above sea level. NHN with a shorter source ditch from the west-northwest. After that, the stream begins its very directional course to the east-south-east until it flows into the Altmühl as the Hagenbach .
Not quite halfway between the Speierhof and the village of Schönbronn von Buch am Wald , the stream crosses the municipal boundary , passes the two road lakes on the right on the slope and is then crossed by the St 2249. From here on it is now called the frog brook . After entering the Schönbronn soft patch, the first inflow of almost a kilometer in length comes from the right; here a short left branch feeds the central village pond. Below the village, he passes the building of the solitude of the Froschmühle, which is on the right at a branched mill ditch . A little after that, the road from Gastenfelden to Morlitzzüge crosses it , after which the almost five-kilometer-long Hirtenbachl flows from a bay in the northwest around Geslau - Ober- und Geslau , after length (3.8 km) like the catchment area on the left, about the same as the Hagenbach Upper course in the stream system.
After that, the little frog brook is sometimes called the Leimbach . This soon takes the Deutschbach from the Buch forest from the left and flows past the Bucher Leimbachsmühle on the left bank . A little further down in Hagenau , its most catchment-rich and almost five-kilometer-long tributary, the Gastenfelder Bach flows from the west, which, south of the eponymous Gastenfelden, with its right tributaries has cleared a large erosion bay reaching as far as Schillingsfürst - Stilzendorf , which has given it a sub-catchment area that comes close to the Leimbach.
With the confluence of the Leimbach and Gastenfelder Bach , the Hagenbach , which is just under eight kilometers long on its name segment , is created, to which only one important brook, namely the Berbersbach, flows . Its sources lie on the northern edge of the Buch forest and on its overall south-eastern course it crosses the municipal seat of Buch am Wald and then flows less than a kilometer east-southeast of Hagenau near the hamlet of Berbersbach . Close to the south-southwest edge of the left Weidlach high forest , the Hagenbach now crosses the hamlet of Clonsbach , which already belongs to Leutershausen , then branches off a long left mill ditch, passes the hamlet of Lenzersdorf at the right foot of the slope and then takes up the tributary again at the Untreumühle . It then flows between the associated parish village of Jochsberg above and the town of Leutershausen, which is closer below, from the right and into the east-south-eastern course at just under 425 m above sea level. NHN in the upper Altmühl .
Catchment area
The Hagenbach has a catchment area of less than 35 km². It is roughly in the shape of a not quite isosceles wedge that ends 11 km from the Kohlplatte above the Speiergraben spring east-southeast to the confluence with the Altmühl , and is about 7 km wide at the western base. On the left, north-eastern watershed, from Frankenhöhe-Trauf on Wildenhofer Ranken to the south-east to the area around Buch am Wald, the catchment area of the large upward Altmühl tributary, Kreuthbach, adjoins, after which the drainage area of smaller tributaries to this pushes itself up to the confluence with the Altmühl . The catchment area of the again quite large Erlbacher Mühlbach , which runs in the same direction as Kreuthbach and Hagenbach itself to the Altmühl, soon lies on the southern watershed . At the southwest corner of the catchment area arise just beyond the here with over 540 m above sea level. NHN, the watershed reaching the maximum height in the area, whose large tributary Sulzach and in Schillingsfürst the Wörnitz .
The western watershed is also the main European watershed between Altmühl / Danube on this side and Tauber / Main / Rhine on the other side. On the larger part of the stretch from Schillingsfürst in the south to the Kohlplatte mentioned at the source, on the other side, the Wohnbach competes with its tributaries. The sheath is barely noticeable here due to the Rhenish water taps advancing in the old Danubian valleys. On the remainder of the stretch to the northwest corner of the catchment area, the downward Tauber tributary Kirnberger Mühlbach collects its tributaries. Here the terrain slopes mostly steeply to the west.
In terms of nature, the catchment area belongs entirely to the Frankenhöhe (main unit 114). The largest sub-room in it is the so-called Gastenfelden Basin (114.12) , which is defined by the flat corridor landscape . It is divided into a sub-basin around the upper reaches of the Hagenbach Froschbächlein with Speierhofgraben and Hirtenbachl in the north-west on the one hand and another around the Gastenfelder Bach with its tributaries Rothbach and Traisdorf Bach in the west-south-west, which then converge to the east near Hagenau and like the draining brooks narrow so far up to the mouth of the Berbersbach near the hamlet of the same name that the still following narrow middle and lower Hagenbach valley is counted as one of the adjacent sub-areas. These are determined by forests on the edge heights, which belong to the Rothenburger Hardt (114.10) in the west, to the Bucher Höhe (114.14) in the northwest and to the Sulzach edge heights (114.03) and an eastern branch of it and the basin very much ring closed. There are noticeable land bridges to the adjoining open landscapes in the northwest at Oberbreitenau and Unterbreitenau to the Colmberg Basin (114.13) around the Kreuthbach and the upper Altmühl itself, at the Schillingsfürster Schafhof to the Wettringer and Oestheimer Bucht (127.91) of the Hohenloher Ebene natural area in the west below the Keuperstufe (Main unit 127), next to it, of course, the corridor hose along the Hagenbach name run to the Altmühl in the east, which is included in the Bucher Höhe.
The greatest heights in the catchment area are all on the western watershed or close to it on the left and right. At the Südwesteck on the ridge that stretches eastward from Schillingsfürst, over 545 m above sea level. Reached NN , at times the Bronnenhaus source branch of the Stilzendorfer Bach rises almost at this height. The Kohlplatte southwest of Speierhof rises to over 520 m above sea level. NN , north of Oberbreitenau, the plateau rises above the Stiftsholz to 524 m above sea level. NN .
The municipality of Buch am Wald has by far the largest and most central part of the catchment area. In the south, southwest and west, another large part belongs to the Schillingsfürst, in the west a tiny one to Gebsattel, in the north a noticeable one to Geslau and the also noticeably large estuary from the middle course of the Hagenbach in the east to Leutershausen.

geology
The Hagenbach and its tributaries run entirely in the Mittelkeuper because of their low gradient and because the main stream only includes a small angle to the natural stratification . The higher sources are in the sandstone keuper, the lower ones in the gypsum keuper ( grave field formation ), in which the stream also flows. In the area of the flat convergence of the estuary east of Gastenfelden, where the Traisdorfer Bach , Gastenfelder Bach and Froschbächlein / Leimbach converge one after the other, there is a wedge of loess sediment , which then extends narrowly along the Hagenbach to around Clonsbach. Above all, the two southern of the three large source brooks just mentioned run early in floodplain sediment bands, one of which also accompanies the Hagenbach to its mouth.
Between the Speierhofgraben / Froschbächlein / Leimbach in the north and the Gastenfelder Bach in the south, there is a 3 km-long documented disturbance that begins a little west of the main spring and ends about south of the Frosch Mill.
