history

In 1168, Bockenfeld was first mentioned by name in a deed of donation for the Ansbach Gumbertuss pen . The place name "Bockenfeld" contains the Germanic personal name Bocco . From this it can be concluded that the settlement was founded around 800 AD.

In the following period until 1245, the Gumbertus monastery acquired further goods and at the beginning of the 14th century the Schillingsfürst rule in the place. In the Thirty Years War , six out of nine farms were deserted. It was only towards the end of the 17th century that the farms could be rebuilt and managed.

In 1799 Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst , the imperial city of Rothenburg and the Ansbach monastery were landlords in Bockenfeld. Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst were subordinate to 19 subject families. 1802 the place is also called "Taubenbockenfeldt".

With the community edict (early 19th century), Bockenfeld was assigned to the Diebach tax district . A little later, the rural community of Bockenfeld was formed. In administration and jurisdiction, it was subject to the Schillingsfürst Lordship Court (from 1840 Schillingsfürst Regional Court ). The municipality had an area of 3.328 km². In the course of the regional reform , this was incorporated into Gebsattel on May 1, 1978.

Until the 1970s the place had a stop on the Steinach near Rothenburg – Dombühl railway line .
