Diebach Castle

The castle Diebach is an Outbound medieval hilltop castle on the site of the cemetery about 30 to 70 meters west of the church in Diebach in Ansbach in Bavaria .

history

The castle , built by the Lords of Diebach as a toll and protective castle, was first mentioned in a document from Count Hermann von Dillingen around 1236. The reason for the foundation of the village and the castle was a ford over the Tauber , through which the major trade routes Frankfurt  - Würzburg  - Rothenburg  - Augsburg ran. In 1363 a Kunlin is named by Dyepach and Albrecht Olemann at the castle. The von Diebach family probably died out in the course of the 15th century, because around 1500 the castle was owned by Georg von Rein, who sold it to Rothenburg in 1520 for 3,050 gulden. During the Peasants' War , the castle was burned down by Adam von Thüngen on May 18, 1525 . In 1557 the castle was owned by the Rothenburg patrician family von Fürbringer until 1651 Matthias Pantzer from Stockerau acquired the castle. After that, the castle changed hands frequently. In 1803 the village became part of Bavaria and the castle began to fall into disrepair until it was demolished in 1817 because it was dilapidated.

In 1897 the remains of the moat were discovered during the construction of today's church tower .
