Eybburg Castle

The castle Eybburg is an Outbound medieval moated castle in the hamlet Eybburg , a modern district of the market town of Arberg (house no. 3) in the district of Ansbach in Bavaria .

history

Before the castle was built, the settlement, then known as "Lochhof" or "Lohhof", was a fief seat of the legacy of the Eichstätt monastery , which was decried as a robber barons nest. In 1487 the seat of the lords of Eyb-Sommersdorf was rebuilt as a castle and renamed Eybburg. After the imperial ban on Karl Schenken von Arberg in 1533, Bishop Gabriel von Eyb (1455–1535, Prince-Bishop of Eichstätt 1496–1535) granted the owner of the Eybburg, Georg Ludwig the Younger von Eyb and his heirs, the office of inheritance.

From the former rectangular castle, which was partially demolished in the 20th century, remains of the castle wall , moats , two tower foundations and a chapel in the former drawbridge entrance (gate construction) have been preserved.
