Limburg Castle Stables

The Limburg Castle Stables , also known as the Limburg Fortress, is an abandoned early medieval hilltop castle on a hill about 450 meters north of the church in Wilburgstetten in the Ansbach district in Bavaria .

history

The castle, mentioned in the 13th century, was the seat of the von Rechenberg family , truchess of the Counts of Oettingen . The Limburg Fortress and Wilburg Castle in the middle of the village secured the transition of the old Reichsstraße from Dinkelsbühl via the Wörnitz to Nördlingen and further south. In 1431 the castle was destroyed. Today the castle site is built over by the hamlet of Limburg.
