Schillingsfürst Castle is a castle and seat of the House of Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst in Schillingsfürst in Middle Franconia ( Bavaria ).

history

The name "Xillingesfirst" appeared around the year 1000 in the Burgbernheim deer document . Schillingsfürst was owned by the Hohenlohe family as early as 1300 . In 1316 the castle was destroyed by Ludwig the Bavarian . The rebuilt castle was burned down in the Peasants' War in 1525. The castle, which was built for the third time, was destroyed again in 1632 during the Thirty Years' War . Under Prince Karl Albrecht, Schillingsfürst experienced a first major expansion through a planned settlement policy from 1753–1793. With the formation of the Kingdoms of Bavaria and Württemberg , the Principality of Hohenlohe-Waldenburg-Schillingsfürst was dissolved. The possessions around Schillingsfürst came to Bavaria, the princes became Reichsrat der Krone Bayern . One owner of the castle, Prince Chlodwig zu Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst (1819–1901), was Bavarian Prime Minister between 1866 and 1870 and Chancellor of the German Empire from 1894 to 1900 and Prime Minister of Prussia . The castle is still owned by the family.

Large parts of the complex are entered in the Bavarian Monument List, which was first created on the basis of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act of October 1, 1973, so u. a.

  • the castle, a three-storey three-wing complex with a courtyard, 1705–1740 mainly by Louis Remy de la Fosse ; with double moat system; inner moat bridge, five-arched rectangular structure, probably 18th century; outer moat bridge, single-arched ashlar bridge, probably 18th century
  • the courtyard garden, east of the palace, early 18th century, later converted to the English style; Sewer system; Phoenix memorial, sandstone and metal casting, early 18th century; Mausoleum of the Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst family, neo-Gothic chapel building with furnishings, 1890/91; Associated cemetery, surrounded by hedges, sandstone posts, bars, around 1890
  • the manor of the castle, farm buildings arranged at right angles with elongated hipped roof building (former barracks), 17th / 18th centuries century
  • the former court bakery, a two-story plastered saddle roof building, sandstone structures, marked 1763.
