Castle hill tower

The tower hill castle , also castle Insingen called, is a Outbound medieval motte (moth) about 150 meters east to east-southeast of the church on the eastern outskirts of Insingen (on courtyard) in the district of Ansbach in Bavaria .

history

The castle of the Lords of Kesselberg was probably built in the 12th century. In 1237 the castle was destroyed "personally" by Juta von Kesselberg as atonement . She wanted to end the ban on church with which her husband Friedrich von Kesselberg was occupied. He was slain in a dispute with Würzburg horsemen in 1237 and should be able to be buried in church.

Presumably rebuilt, the castle was owned by the Lords of Insingen from 1308 to 1338 and was bought by the Lords of Seldeneck in the same year . In 1375 Weiprecht von Tann is named as the owner. After the castle was captured by troops from the city of Rothenburg in 1553 , it was sold to the imperial city of Rothenburg in 1558. In 1804 the castle was auctioned and then demolished.

The tower hill is partially covered by the former moth enclosure with double moat system.
