The Postal Bonnhof even lock Bonnhof called, is a Outbound medieval moated castle in Bonnhof , a modern suburb of Heilsbronn in Central Franconia Ansbach in Bavaria .
history
Ludwig the Bavarian gave permission for this fortification in 1337. For centuries the castle was the seat of the provost's office of the Cistercian monastery in Heilsbronn . It served the abbot of the monastery as a country house. The castle fell into disrepair in the 19th century. The walled moat and a cellar vault were partially preserved .
description
The castle, which was probably built from the stones of the dismantled Bürglein Castle , was not protected by ramparts and walls, but only by a wide moat over which a "Schlagprukken" ( drawbridge ) led. The castle, in an idyllic location with comfortable rooms, soon became a favorite place to stay for the Abbots of Heilsbronn. Among others, Margrave Albrecht Achilles and his wife and entourage were quartered here in 1460 and 1461 .
The castle courtyard could be reached through a 28 meter high gate tower with a chapel, bell tower and a goalkeeper's apartment. The castle had a two-story living room with an entrance hall below, a kitchen with dining room on the first floor, a living room, bedroom and summer arbor on the second floor. The provost's "waiter" stayed under the roof. Another long, four-door building was the apartment of the bailiff who guarded the prisoners in the "foxhole" (prison) and received an admission fee and a release fee.
