history

Poppenbach was owned by the diocese of Würzburg at the beginning of the 14th century . Heinrich, Friedrich and Sitzo Esel von Nordenberg received around 1320 a. a. Poppenbach as a Würzburg fief. In addition, Ulrich von Aurach and Ulrich called Aher von Witauwe were enfeoffed. Sitzo von Esel lost the fiefdom and the castle after his conviction in 1328. They were then awarded to Lupold Kuchenmeister von Nordenberg. In 1340 he sold his property to Burkhart von Seckendorff zu Jochsberg . 1447 Poppenbach is owned by Konrad Lesch zu Insingen . In 1453 Craft von Vestenberg bought the fiefdom from the widow of Konrad Lesch. In 1497 Caspar von Vestenberg zu Rosenberg a . a. enfeoffed with Poppenbach. In 1584 Poppenbach finally came to Friedrich von Crailsheim together with the manor Rügland .

Towards the end of the 18th century there were 12 properties in Poppenbach (1 courtyard, 9 courtyards, 4 estates, 1 shepherd's house). The high court exercised the manor Rügland of the Lords of Crailsheim to a limited extent. If necessary, it had to be delivered to the Brandenburg-Bayreuth mayor's office in Markt Bergel . The rulership of the Rügland manor held the rulership of the village and the community and the manor over all properties. It remained in the hands of this noble family until the end of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation (1806) and was part of the knightly canton of Altmühl .

In 1810 Poppenbach came to the Kingdom of Bavaria . As part of the community edict, Poppenbach was assigned to the Bergel tax district in 1811 . In 1817 it also belonged provisionally to the municipal municipality of Bergel. With the second community edict (1818) Poppenbach became an independent rural community . The municipality was under the administration and jurisdiction of the District Court of Windsheim and the financial administration of the Ipsheim Rent Office . On April 1, 1832, he moved to the Leutershausen Regional Court and Colmberg Rent Office . In the voluntary jurisdiction and local police, 14 properties were subordinate to the Rügland Patrimonial Court from 1820 to 1848 . From 1862 to 1879 Poppenbach was administered by the district office of Ansbach , from 1880 by the district office of Rothenburg ob der Tauber (renamed the district of Rothenburg ob der Tauber in 1938 ). The jurisdiction remained with the district court Leutershausen until 1879, since 1880 district court Rothenburg ob der Tauber . The financial management was taken over in 1880 by Rentamt Rothenburg ob der Tauber (renamed Finanzamt Rothenburg ob der Tauber in 1920 ). The municipality had an area of 3,071 km².

On May 1, 1978 Poppenbach was incorporated into Colmberg as part of the regional reform .
